To improve the lives of dogs and cats today and avoid harm tomorrow
The Edgard & Cooper Foundation therefore exists to end the suffering of dogs and cats.

Imagine a world where every dog and cat has access to everything they need to live a long, happy and healthy life.
That's things like food and water, safe shelter, vaccines and medicine, space to roam and friends to bond and play with. But today, around the world, too many dogs and cats live difficult, lonely and unnecessarily short lives. We're here to help stop that - by improving lives today, and avoiding harm tomorrow.

Our Strategy & Goals
Our goals are strategic: they are designed to start immediately helping dogs and cats in need, while also creating long-term change that will break the cycle of neglect at an individual, community and government level.

Our Strategy & Goals
The Edgard & Cooper Foundation's strategy is based on the 5 Freedoms, an internationally recognised set of standards designed to ensure that we, as humans, meet the mental and physical needs of animals in our care.
We used the 5 Freedoms to develop three clear goals that will help the Foundation to achieve its mission.
Our goals are strategic: they are designed to start immediately helping dogs and cats in need, while also creating long-term change that will break the cycle of neglect at an individual, community and government level.
goal 1
Stop the avoidable suffering of dogs and cats

We need to provide immediate help to protect the most vulnerable dogs and cats.
Our first goal is to fund projects that alleviate the suffering of dogs and cats. We seek out partners who tackle issues holistically, addressing the root causes while treating the symptoms. This might include projects that neuter and vaccinate stray populations, and/or that provide medical treatment, housing, re-homing & feeding.

goal 2
Help people understand what dogs and cats need

We must ensure everyone who interacts with cats & dogs understands their needs.
Our second goal is to ensure everyone interacting with dogs & cats - either as owners or as a community - understands what these animals need to feel good. We will seek out projects that educate and inspire responsible behaviours because this tackles the root cause of animal neglect and creates systemic, long-term change.
We must ensure everyone who interacts with cats & dogs understands their needs.
goal 3
Champion the legal protection of dogs and cats

We must change public policies, attitudes and behaviours to improve the lives of cats & dogs.
Our third goal supports the growing global movement to protect and develop the rights of dogs and cats. We will fund innovative work to ensure legal protection is implemented correctly, and to further support and evidence the Universal Declaration of Animal Welfare*.
*An agreement among people and nations to recognise that animals are sentient and can suffer, to respect their welfare needs, and to end animal cruelty – for good.

Our approach
We fund projects that have the power to make real, lasting change
We seek out those organisations whose vision and goals perfectly align with our own and provide them with the funding that they need to succeed.
